In his quest to seek out people and ideas shifting how the world works to make it better, Scott Henderson talks with David Jones, Global CEO of Havas, co-founder of One Young World, and author of Who Cares Wins, who spoke at the Guardian Activate Summit in New York.
Jones explains how social media has created an environment of radical transparency, where the public has more power to hold organizations and institutions more accountable. As a result, businesses are shifting corporate social responsibility out of the silos and integrating it directly into business strategy. Jones states simply:
“The last century was about NGOs and charitable organizations having fantastic intentions but not always great execution, and the world of business having fantastic execution but not always great intentions… I think this century needs to be about and can be about businesses having brilliant intentions and brilliant execution.”
Jones also discusses One Young World, a platform for youth to work on tangible social impact projects with consultation from incredible leaders like Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu. One Young World brings together 1,300 young people from 175 different countries, and has helped with 375 projects.
