On her mission to spotlight the “Young and Relentless” – the twenty-somethings that are (already!) changing the world – Sonia Chokshi talks to Gabriela Garcia Medina, a spoken-word poet who has performed in colleges across the nation. She was also featured performing in a Dove commercial.

The incredible people we feature here on New Empire Builders are building organizations, developing systems, fostering collaboration – and ultimately, driving social change. But, let’s take a step back. As Gabriela explains in this interview, before we can go out and manifest these passions in the world, we must first “go inward” and discover ourselves.

Above all, Gabriela emphasizes the importance of vulnerability. Establishing genuine honesty and transparency will allow you (and your organization) to inspire, connect with, and mobilize others. And for her, creativity and poetry allows her to do that. Through reading, appreciating art, and simply writing, Gabriela has been able to perform poems that resonate with a huge variety of audiences.

Itching to get going to unleash your own creativity? Gabriela recommends The Artist’s Way as a great starting point.
