In his quest to seek out the people and ideas shifting how the world works to make it better, Scott Henderson speaks with Susan Schuman, president of SYPartners, who presented at the BIF-8 conference in Providence, Rhode Island.
For over twenty years, Schuman and her team at SYPartners have worked with successful companies, like Starbucks, IBM, and Facebook to turn their teams into drivers of growth. They belive that it’s the “forgotten middle” – the teams and managers that build the core of the company – that really matter. Focusing on fostering trust and strength within these teams is what allows companies to really scale well.
Teams are comprised of duos, or what Schuman calls, “the smallest atomic unit of trust.” To build a great team, you have to break it down to each pair of individuals to identify where the relationships are strong, weak, or broken. On that level, you can then strengthen each duo relationship to create a solid team.
SYPartners has also launched an iPad app, Unstuck, to help individuals pinpoint where they are “stuck” in their everyday life and to coach them back to greatness.
